Before we look at the software, we must understand the physics. The B-2 is inherently unstable. Unlike a Cessna or a Boeing 747, the flying wing design has no vertical stabilizer or conventional tail surfaces to provide yaw stability. In the real world, the B-2 relies on a sophisticated fly-by-wire (FBW) system and computational fluid dynamics to stay airborne. The computer takes the pilot's inputs and translates them into movements of the split ailerons and "decelerons" (drag rudders).
