Set in an ordinary 1970s Michigan suburb, the film follows the five Lisbon sisters—Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese—through the eyes of a group of neighborhood boys who are obsessed with them . After the youngest sister’s suicide attempt, their strict, overprotective religious parents (played by James Woods and Kathleen Turner) begin to isolate them further, eventually trapping them in their home as they transition from childhood innocence to a tragic end .
