The Internet Archive is one of the few bastions of digital history that operates outside the immediate pressure of commercial viability. It houses the , a massive collection of trade-friendly artists (think Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, and thousands of indie bands) where FLAC is the gold standard.

While the FLAC Repack Project has made significant progress, it faces several challenges:

Hosting FLAC files is not trivial. A single CD-quality album (16-bit/44.1kHz) in FLAC averages 300-400 MB. A 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution album can exceed 1.5 GB. Multiply that by tens of thousands of albums, and the storage and bandwidth costs are astronomical. The Internet Archive sustains this through donations and partnerships, but the load is immense.

Downloading a single file is easy, but a "repack" often contains 20+ tracks, covers, and logs. Here is the professional workflow:
