The story picks up shortly after the first film. Wuba, the cute radish-monster, is now living peacefully with his human parents, Song Tianyin (Jing Boran) and Huo Xiaolan (Bai Baihe). However, peace is short-lived. Wuba is targeted by the evil Monster King who wants to devour him to gain power.

The plot of Monster Hunt 2 picks up where the first film left off. The human characters, played by Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa, have saved the world from the powerful monster, but a new threat emerges in the form of a powerful dragon. The dragon, known as the "Black Dragon," is a legendary creature with incredible strength and the ability to manipulate the environment.
