The Ramayana revolves around the life of Prince Rama, the eldest son of King Dasharatha, ruler of Ayodhya. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when King Dasharatha, under pressure from his second wife Queen Kaikeyi, banishes Rama to the forest for 14 years.

The film’s very creation is a legend in itself. It was a groundbreaking Indo-Japanese co-production, conceived by the late, great animator Yugo Sako (known for The Buddha series) and directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan (the father of Indian animation).
