In the vast kingdom of animated cinema, 2014’s Big Hero 6 occupies a unique throne. It’s a film where grief is healed by robotics, where a inflatable nurse robot becomes a superhero, and where the villain’s motive is heartbreakingly human.

This paper explores the unique localization phenomenon of "thuyết minh" (voice-over narration) in Vietnam through the case study of the animated film Big Hero 6 (2014). While global distribution often favors full dubbing (lồng tiếng), the "thuyết minh" version of Big Hero 6 remains a popular access point for Vietnamese audiences. By comparing the original English dialogue with the Vietnamese narration, this study analyzes how the translator’s voice mediates cultural nuances, humor, and emotional beats. The paper argues that the thuyết minh style creates a "dual-layered" experience where the narrator acts as both translator and cultural commentator, deepening the accessibility of Baymax’s healthcare themes for Vietnamese children while occasionally altering the comedic timing of the original script.
